Homes for Ukraine scheme

The UK government has launched a scheme to provide Ukrainians and their immediate families with safe homes in the UK.

What is the Homes for Ukraine scheme?

The Homes for Ukraine scheme was launched by the UK government on 18 March 2022. It was created to allow individuals and organisations in the UK (‘sponsors’) to open their homes to Ukrainians fleeing their homeland, and their immediate families.

In return for providing accommodation, the government will pay sponsors £350 a month as a thank you.

My client has a Nationwide mortgage. Do they need to tell you if they’re a sponsor?

They don’t need to tell us before they sign up to be a sponsor. It’s important that a valid tenancy agreement is in place if your client opens their entire property to guests as part of the scheme.

If you client is currently in arrears or financial difficulty, we'd like to talk through their options with them. Please encourage them to call us on 0800 464 30 30 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm). We're closed Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.

Will being a sponsor mean any fees or changes to their mortgage?

No. If your client is taking part in this scheme, we will not charge any fees or move them to a higher interest rate. Please note that we will not include the £350 sponsorship money when calculating affordability.
